Want to help Seniors or the Disabled?

VMC offers two programs to help those over age 60 or permanently disabled.

Programs:

Telephone Reassurance
Friendly Visitor

With the help of these and many other services offered by the Morris County Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans, people can remain in their homes, living independently, for as long as possible.

Volunteers for these programs are carefully screened and trained by VMC professionals.

Telephone Reassurance Program

A daily phone call connects a lonely, isolated senior or a permanently disabled person with the outside world

It brings peace of mind to the caregivers in knowing someone is checking on the recipient's safety and well-being.

Each weekday volunteers make phone calls from calling sites throughout Morris County.

Because every volunteer is screened and trained in emergency procedures, many potential tragedies have been averted.

In addition to checking on the recipients, volunteers provide a "friendly ear" and can give information about available services.

Friendly Visitor Program

Screened volunteers are matched with isolated homebound elderly persons or people with permanent disabilities.

Volunteers, who are matched on the basis of location and time availability, commit to a minimum of one visit a week at a convenient time.

For the recipients: the visits provide companionship, reassurance, socialization and contact with the community.

For the volunteers: being a visitor provides satisfaction in knowing they are helping someone to alleviate their loneliness.
