Welcome Student Volunteers! Our youth listings are opportunities for students under the age of 18 who want to help the community and make friends with other like-minded achievers. VMC Introduces Director of Youth Programs, with new initiative for high school studentsLorna T. Lumpris has more than seventeen years experience in coaching teenagers through the college/university/vocational application process, coupled with twenty-five years of executive management experience. Her experience in guiding students to achieving acceptances from their choice institutions, and mentoring employees in corporate settings to perform at peak levels, and consistently exceeding targeted goals, makes it extremely valuable to the process. Champions To Be™ was created to reach those high school students in the inner city schools who would not ordinarily aspire to obtain a college/university education, and provide them with the tools to make informed choices. Development is a life long journey and everyone's right and responsibility. However, many individuals do not have the appropriate guidance or information to make the right decision regarding career preparation. Decisions at this life stage can dramatically impact the future opportunities and choices to have a full and responsible life. The goal is to provide the guidance and counseling to assist young adults to identify opportunities available to them to further their personal development to meet their maximum potential and fulfill their dreams. Through building a partnership with parents and students, together we uncover the best choices and opportunities for that individual child. Our motto is "Information equals opportunity and applied information equals success." High school guidance counselors are the primary resources for college bound students, and in the majority of instances the population is so overwhelming that the staff is unable to provide the individual attention required to get the job done effectively. School cutbacks have left guidance counselors badly outnumbered. The student/counselor ratio now averages an eye-popping 800 to 1 nationwide. The VMC program will provide staff to accommodate coaching to students who are selected for the program. We assist them in identifying goals, matching those with skills, talents and passions creating a plan and executing it. The plan creates acceptance to a college/university/vocational school to develop those skills ultimately leading to a career of choice. Service will include the following:
Sustainability Statement: The U.S. Department of Commerce US CENSUS BUREAU studies have shown that currently 90 percent of young adults graduate from high school, and only 50 percent continue on to college. One of the most compelling reasons students gave for attending college is the expectation of future economic success based on educational achievement. VMC's objective is to increase the percent of students enrolling in colleges/universities or vocational schools. Today's higher education system for the college bound students requires a plan to effectively accommodate the number of students in the public/private high school system to ensure that students are provided with the necessary resources to enlighten them as to the choices available.
